My grandfather, Karel, was born in Prague.
Although his family moved to England in the early twenties, for economic reasons, he took his wife and children back there to live in the 1930’s. My father grew up there.
Just before the Germans invaded, my grandfather sent my father, also named Karel, and his brother, Frank, back to London. Unfortunately, Frank was run over by a tram in London, my father survived the war.
So that’s why I’m here. My mother was Irish and came over to England to train as a nurse after the was and met my father when he went to hospital for an eye operation.
That’s how I’m here!
